Welcome to 2012. First things first: the world will not end on December 21, 2012. Do the research. Neither the Mayan nor Hopi elders ever predicted an end to the world.
The Mayan round calendar measured 52 years. At some point an enterprising elder decided that 52 years wasn't long enough. So, the "long" calendar was created. It covers about 5,000 years beginning somewhere before 3,000 BC. This long calendar ends ...wait for it ... on December 21, 2012.
What's important to know is that to the ancient Mayan and Hopi cultures, the ending of a calendar signaled entrance into a new age - not the end of everything!
I know of some otherwise intelligent individuals who, in a panic, are converting cash, investments and property into gold. I for one do not believe in buying high and selling low. Come December 22nd when we're all still here, what are those folks going to do with all their gold, especially if gold prices fall?
I say convert your money into a nice comfy RV. Then hit the road and enjoy our great country and the entire continent. You'll be happier for it. And, should the world come to an end...at least you'll go out with a smile on your face!
